The Noto Infiorata: An Explosion of Colour in the Heart of Sicilian Baroque
Every year in May, Noto becomes a stage for ephemeral art thanks to the famous Infiorata di Noto, one of the most fascinating events in Sicily.
For three days, the spectacular Via Nicolaci is covered with intricate carpets made from flower petals, leaves, herbs and natural powders, creating extraordinary designs inspired by different themes each year – from nature and culture to mythology and local traditions.
Walking among these works of art is an immersive experience. The air is filled with the scent of fresh flowers, the colours glow beneath the May sunshine and the contrast with the Baroque façades of the historic noble palaces makes the atmosphere even more magical.
The Infiorata is not simply an artistic event, but a major celebration involving the entire city: music, performances, exhibitions and food tastings fill the streets of the historic centre throughout the weekend.
Sunday is the highlight. The street comes alive with visitors, photographers and families, while the artists add the final details to their floral carpets.
It is the perfect opportunity to discover the best of Noto, explore its narrow streets, visit the Cathedral and enjoy the lively atmosphere that only this unique event can create.
Our practical tips for experiencing the Noto Infiorata
When to go
The best time to visit the Infiorata is early in the morning or around sunset, when there are fewer visitors and the colours of the floral carpets are particularly beautiful.
Sunday is the most spectacular day, but also the busiest. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, Saturday morning is a good choice.
Where to park
Some of the most convenient parking areas are around Via Cavour, Piazza Mazzini and along the side streets outside the historic centre.
During the event, additional parking areas may be available and indicated by temporary signs.
What to bring
Bring water, a hat and comfortable shoes: the Infiorata is best experienced on foot, as you walk through narrow streets, slopes and squares. If you enjoy photography, have your camera or smartphone ready – the colours are spectacular!
Other point of view
Take advantage of your visit to explore more of Noto. Don’t miss the Cathedral of San Nicolò, Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the city’s panoramic terraces, which are perfect for taking memorable photographs.
Infiorata of Noto 2026
As tradition dictates, the event will take place around the third Sunday of May, from 15 to 19 May 2026.
The theme of the 47th edition is a tribute to the icons, artistic languages and avant-garde movements that shaped the twentieth century, including music, cinema, fashion, comics and Pop Art. The official poster features Freddie Mercury with a flower replacing his microphone, symbolising the meeting between floral art and popular culture.
The Infiorata di Noto is an experience not to be missed, and it can be easily reached from Villa Aroi in approximately 20–25 minutes by car.
After a Day among the Colours and Scents of Noto, Relax at Villa Aroi
After a day immersed in the colours, scents and creativity of the Noto Infiorata, there is nothing better than returning to Villa Aroi, a peaceful retreat just a short distance from the sea, where the evening breeze brings with it the tranquillity of the Sicilian coast.
Let the peaceful garden welcome you, enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace and admire the evening sky as the colours of the sunset fade like the final brushstrokes of a work of art.
